Better known in the Rhone Valley, think big Old World style from Hermitage and Cote-Rotie, Syrah has an underground fan club in the Napa Valley. We have a little over an acre of syrah planted on the Ranch at the base of Angelo’s Vineyard, meaning a well-drained gravelly soil composition, leading to smaller more concentrated fruit. And welcome to the 2010 Regusci Estate Syrah! Young, boisterous aromas of plum and mulberries but with a gamey earthiness, power from the glass. The mouth feel is light and bright, with blackcurrant, kirsch, orange peel and pepper spice. Pan sear a Liberty duck breast and enjoy with a bottle of this 2010 Syrah now or watch the wine intensify with age over the next 10 – 12 years, either way this is a wine that will reward.
